5th Annual Midlands Blue Star Mothers’ Palmetto Patriots’ Ball Honors Five on May 18, 2013

Columbia, S.C. — The 5th Annual Midlands Blue Star Mothers’ Palmetto Patriots’ Ball honored five recipients of the 2013 Palmetto Patriot Award on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Medallion Center in Columbia.  The award recognizes those in our community who have not only given of themselves by serving their country, but have made a lasting impression on the State of South Carolina through community involvement.

A reception and silent auction began at 5:30 p.m.  Dinner and dancing followed at 6:30 p.m.
Receiving the 2013 Palmetto Patriot Award were:  Bob Russell,

Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and S.C. National Guard; Capt. James Emerson Smith, Jr., Rear Det. Commander of 1-118 Infantry Combined Arms Battalion, S.C. National Guard; Maj. General George Goldsmith, U.S. Army (Ret.); Lance Corporal Kyle Carpenter, U.S. Marine Corps, Medal of Honor Nominee; and Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Olsen, U.S. Air Force (Ret.)

Funds raised at the event will support Blue Star Mothers and their projects which benefit our veterans, active duty military and their families.
